Comic & Cartoon
In this class students will learn the basics of making comics. They will create comics in a variety of media to familiarize themselves with different comic making techniques and tools. This class will focus more on basic structures and understanding the process. By utilizing tools like references, mannequins, and mirrors students will make 2 to 6 panel single page comics. This session is less focused on narrative and more focused on the basic structural side of comics.
In this session students will focus on creating characters that fit a narrative, and world building. Now that we’re more familiar with the tools the students will create character sheets and settings. This session is more focused on the narrative portion of comic making and fleshing out a central idea. The students will focus on creating a two page story to accompany their character sheets, and they’ll create a room in 1 point perspective.
Now that the students have a better understanding of the techniques required for sequential art they will tackle creating a 4 page comic. It must have cohesive characters and a narrative that spans all 4 pages. The pages will be penciled, inked, colored, and bound so the students see the full process of comic production that professionals undergo.
